"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear." - Ambrose Redmoon stated.
This quote has resounded with me this week. I have accepted the challenge to abseil off the AMP building on October 22nd. What you may not know about me is I have a fear of heights. I am hoping as I cross this off my “bucket list” that this adventure may cure me of my fear of heights. One way to get over a fear is to face it head on. I hear so many wise people giving advice about facing your fears, and what courage means. I know that I have given that advice myself. In accepting to do this I have learnt a lot about myself and I am hoping that at the top of the building I will not be paralysed by fear. I am hoping that my inner strength will allow me to be courageous. I am so very nervous about this feat and have realised that it is OK to be afraid. I am taking inspiration from the young people who arrive at our doors every day and face their fears head on. The courage that they demonstrate in changing their lives can appear to be insurmountable. The challenges are nothing short of heroic. They arrive not knowing how they are going to change their lives just hoping that they can. Often hearing their life stories brings tears to my eyes and wonder how a life so young can have already gone through so much. They have seen more tragedy and lived more in their young years than most people ever should in a whole lifetime.
So as I stand at the top of the AMP building on October 22nd I will be thinking of the young people arriving at our doors with only hope in their hearts. I hope that my courage will inspire some people to donate to something more important than me. Saving young lives…
