CEO Diary May

Jannine Jackson
As we struggle to understand the full impact of the Global Economic Crisis on our organisation, I find myself having numerous conversations with supporters and suppliers that they too are in a similar situation. They have had a significant down-turn in business. They are concerned for the future of their jobs and their organisations. It was during these conversations that I heard “GEC” for the first time. I had to stop and think what were we talking about? It is then I realised that the ‘Global Economic Crisis’ has been so broadly discussed that it is now an acronym. What is Sir David Martin Foundation doing to try and address the “GEC”? We are planning and trying to ensure that we can still meet the needs of the people who really need us.

The number of people who desperately need our services is increasing dramatically. My staff and I have seen a dramatic increase in the number of distressed parents who are contacting us and willing to try anything to get help for their troubled teen. This trend has us all concerned. Our programs are full and so it appears are the majority of others. Our goal is to help more but first we must prepare for our own economic slow down.
